As a part of the run-up campaign to India
Denim Day, an awareness session was organized at Sri Venkateswara
College,
South Campus, New Delhi.
Prior to the knowledge dissemination session, a
debate competition was held. The topic for debate was How can the
awareness of HIV and AIDS be raised most effectively; by targeting civil
society at large or only high risk groups. Each speaker was allowed
two plus one minute for presenting their arguments. There were a total of
12 participants. The winners would be given prizes at the culminating
event being held on 1st December, 2008.

The awareness session
was conducted by Mr. Michael Marshall, of Sahara Centre for Residential Care &
Rehabilitation.
The students were provided information on HIV & AIDS, the difference
between HIV and AIDS, the methods of transmission of HIV. The students
were also sensitised on the need to support People living with HIV and the
significance of reducing the levels of stigma and discrimination directed at
People living with HIV.
At the end of the session, the participants
indicated that they felt that there was a need for conducting more such
sessions on a regular basis, so that more and more people are made aware
of the issues relating to the pandemic of HIV and AIDS. |
