DCI India Denim Day Campaign - 1 Dec. 2009 to 30 Nov. 2010
The India Denim Day was organized on 1st of December at FIEO Auditorium, Niryat Bhawan, New Delhi. You can view snapshots of the India Denim Day 2009 event organized on the Programs page.

The India Denim Day 2009 was preceded by a Run-up campaign which was launched on 15th November, 2009.

The 2009 campaign, with the theme Do Something and Make A Difference will continue till 30th November, 2010. The campaign will comprise of several parallel activities, targeting different segments and sections of civil society. We shall be reaching out to the youth in schools and colleges, the low income group workers and decision makers / senior executives in industrial establishments, and general public by way of the program components mentioned in the following section.
Denim Give Away Drive to Collect old / un-used denims for People Living with HIV and/or Affected by AIDS   Awareness Sessions and Competitions for Students of  Schools and Colleges   Awareness Sessions for Shop-floor Workers and Executives in Industry / Organizations
The run-up campaign to India Denim Day 2009 began with the launching of a "Denim Give Away Drive" on the 15th November, 2009. The drive was launched at the showroom of The Brand Express, Vasant Kunj which is the central point for the drive.

As a part of this drive, we are collecting old and currently un-used Denims from one and all, which will subsequently be donated to People Living with HIV through a few selected NGOs.

Several individuals, organizations and institutions have come forward to participate in the Denim Give Away Drive by setting up drop off points at their premises. You can view more details about the drive and the existing drop off points at the Denim Give Away Drive page.
We shall reach out to the youth in schools and colleges and shall screen short movies revolving around the theme of HIV and AIDs.

The attempt shall be to create awareness and to help initiate dialogue about HIV and AIDS  so that the silence associated with the topic can be broken. We shall also emphasize the need to take precautions so as to protect and prevent self as well as others, as also the need to take action to help in reducing social stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS and gaining a perspective that small actions can go a long way in making a difference.

Young minds have different way of thinking and often have innovative and creative ideas. To bring out the creativity and ideas, the students would be encouraged to take part in competitions, we propose to hold the competitions in Poster Making and also organize Debates.

  • Poster Making Competition
  • T-shirt design
  • Debate

The competition winners would win handsome prizes.

The campaign shall reach out to the floor level production workers in various garment manufacturing and processing units to educate them and make them more aware of the safer sex practices.

We shall screen films followed by an open house to help in dispelling myths that people have about HIV and AIDS and provide them with facts. The open house would also highlight that HIV and AIDS should not be looked at as someone else's problem and the fact that unaffected can continue to ignore the same.

With the current pandemic proportions it is essential not only to learn about the facts, and to take little steps like talking about HIV to propagate a continuous dialogoue which could be the harbinger of bringing around a slow but essential change in attitudes and safer sex practices.

The campaign shall also involve motivated and socially conscious employees of the organization who can take the Leadership and carry on the process forward on a regular and continuous basis.
